In Social Studies and Language Arts we finished Chapter 10 of Ticket to Curlew. The Martingales lost their oxen, and Sam helped to find them on his horse named Prince. He met up with Gregor who is hopefully going to help him find the oxen.
Before our visit to OH Ranch, we learned about sustainability, stewardship and ranching vs. faming. We learned that:
- Sustainability is not wasting resources (ex: water, food and things we use to survive).
- Stewardship is taking care of something (ex: the environment and our resources).
- Ranching is raising animals as the main products (ex: livestock).
- Farming is growing farms or raising livestock to collect resources from them.
On Thursday we visited OH Ranch. We played some games, like predator/prey tag and horseshoes, fed horses named Piper and George, made skipping ropes, tried barrel racing, went on a nature walk, sketched the landscape on two side of a hill (we notice that one side had more sun than the other which affects the type of plant growth) and analyzed the plants that were out on the ranch. At lunchtime, we saw a stampede of bucking stock horses thunder past us.
In Math we practiced for our multiplication check-in, and on Wednesday we had the real check-in.
Last Friday, Aylah and Maddie presented their passion project about Mexico. We learned about the foods, flowers and facts about Mexcio!
