This week was kind of cold.

In math we did some problem solving. We solved a problem about hockey goal differentials, and a few other word problems.

In science we went outside to record and research our playground equipment to see different simple machines to put in the playgrounds we are building. We started making our blueprint for our simple machines playground.

In social studies we looked at some of the posters that the government put up so the Europeans would come to the west. We wrote about the pros and cons of coming to Alberta.

In language arts we gave feedback to each other on our cat/rat perspective writing, and then we typed it up. We used a cool tool called "voice typing" where when you talk to the computer, it turns it into a sentence.

Our spelling pattern next week
The vowel pairs ai and ay make the /ā/ sound you hear in waist and fray. Diphthongs are different from vowel pairs in that the 2 vowels blend together to make one sound. The diphthongs oi and oy make the /ōi/ sound you hear in voices

Some examples include:
voices
sprain
noises
disloyal
employ
waist
destroyed
fray
broiling
swaying
displays
praised
disappoint
railroad
royalty
appointed
crayon
boiling
soybean
spoiled

Reminders:
  • We will be constructing playground parks for our simple machine unit, so please continue collecting items to use for the project such as, popsicle sticks, cardboard, straws, bottle caps, string, cardstock, pipecleaner, rubber bands, plastic lids/containers, tinfoil, thimbles, buttons, toothpicks, sticky tack, etc.
    • If you have a glue gun and/or Lego people that you are willing to bring in that would be very much appreciated.
Have a wonderful weekend!
