In math we learned a new strategy for subtraction called "Shift It". This is when you take away a number from both of the numbers in the equation to make them "friendly". Friendly numbers help us count more efficiently.
In science we have been researching about force, gravity and motion. We also researched about 3 different kinds of simple machine: the lever, the inclined plane and the wheel and axle. We also had an introduction to the pulley, and the screw.
In social studies we finished our partner research about our Albertan roots. We shared our answers as a class.
In language arts we got the our cat/rat perspective writing feedback back from another grade 4 class. We are planning to use the feedback to improve our descriptive/perspective writing skills.
We also had an assembly for Pink Shirt day! Here are some pictures:
Our spelling pattern next week:
Be careful when spelling words with the /ô/ sound that you hear in fault and dawn. The vowel digraphs au and aw make the /ô/ sound, and they sound alike.
Some examples include:
claws
fault
causing
dawn
straw
drawings
launch
sauce
jaw
haunt
yawn
fawns
awkward
gnaw
audience
scrawl
fraud
gaunt
restaurant
shawl
Reminders:
- We will be constructing playground parks for our simple machine unit, so please continue collecting items to use for the project such as, popsicle sticks, cardboard, straws, bottle caps, string, cardstock, pipecleaner, rubber bands, plastic lids/containers, tinfoil, thimbles, buttons, toothpicks, putty, etc.
- Please pack knit gloves (gloves you can use a pencil with) next week as we will be taking notes outside.
- No school tomorrow, March 1st
Have a fabulous weekend!
