Mad Minutes: Practice Reminder

Please take the time this week to practice for our Mad Minutes this Friday. Students be given 1 minute for each section to answer as many addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts which is a total of 4 minutes. We will continue to use the same facts below for every Mad Minute. We will be challenged to beat our previous record.

This week was terrific, fantastic, and painful (because of the wall sits!).

In Math we played a few games called multiplication jeopardy, multiplication bingo, and multiplication war. 

In Science we went on a website called Edheads. It was a website where you learn about simple machines by exploring different objects in a house!

In Social Studies we have been finishing up work on our social posters to convince newcomers to come to Alberta. 

In Language Arts we worked on THIEVES. THIEVES is a tool we can use to pick out the important information in a paragraph. We also made a goal to improve our fluency when we read during daily 5. 

Our spelling pattern next week will be: 

Focus: If a singular word ends in x, ss, sh or ch, you usually add es to make it mean more than one.

fox + es = foxes

This week was magnificent!

In math we got our math check-ins back to check our mistakes and try to fix them. 

In science we are continuing to build our playground. Here are a few pictures:

In social studies we have been drawing and colouring our posters about coming to Western Canada. 

We also uploaded a couple artifacts onto IRIS. These artifacts include a picture of our pattern our and description of process to make it, and we took a picture of our descriptive writing. We are going to make a writing goal!

Our spelling pattern after spring break will be: 

The diphthongs ou and ow can make the /ou/ sound, as in without and towns.

The letter ow can also be a vowel pair making the /ō/ sound, as in hollow.

The letter ou can make the /ō/ sound in although, the /ô/ sound in thought, or the /u/ sound, as in southern.
